Factors that Increase Risk for Ovarian Cancer:
First degree relative with ovarian cancer
Age 50 or older
Obesity
Never having children
Prior use of fertility medication
Personal history of breast or colon cancer
History of elevated Ca-125 (cancer) blood test
However, remember that the majority of women with ovarian cancer have no prior family history or other risk factors for ovarian cancer. 30% of new cases are between 35 and 50 years of age, and ANY woman (regardless of risk factors) has a 1 in 55 lifetime risk for ovarian cancer.
Our Program:
A 20-30 minute visit which will include a full ovarian and breast cancer risk assessment
The Transvaginal Ultrasound (TVU) is simple and comfortable. No full bladder is required, and if feel comparable to the insertion of a tampon.
You receive a full written report with an explanation for you and your primary care physician or gynecologist
If indicated, a Ca-125 blood test is separate and performed by any quality reference lab of your choice
Dr. Armstrong will make the appropriate recommendations for follow-up screening intervals
